An Ice Fisherman's SECOND worst nightmare
« on: Feb 24, 2015, 12:26 PM »
Went out to a new lake today because I heard the bite was on and after I drilled my holes, I began skimming them and I was a little hunched over doing it, so knowing my luck, my phone fell out of my coat pocket and plopped right in the hole... I was just staring at it with disbelief and for 2 and a half hours I tried to McGyver the stuff I had into a makeshift phone grabber and I had my camera out to help guide me but it was to no avail. So I wanna ask, did anyone ever drop their phone through the ice and managed to get it back out, and if so how?

ugh. my wifes phone case has a small magnet on it. She got it specifically for using the magnet to stick on the tank of her Harley to listen to music. That magnet is pretty darn strong. This being said, if dropped down a hole the case is not water proof so you would most likely be out of luck anyway. Just an idea. Maybe there is a waterproof case out there with a magnet? good luck. hate to hear

One warm February day my wife dropped my phone into the lake.  It was only a week old and I went swimming after it.  The phone worked for a week or 2 after the event.

use zip lock bags. attach a string to it in the corner.
i fell thru and my android got wet and the screen was wet behind the touch/front section and the lights wouldn't turn off. so i put it into a air tight food storage box filled with rice and crackers to draw out the moisture. then i inspected it and the water started corrosion right away on the solder joints. so it was done for any way you look at it. so by loosing it the way you did, it is the way i hope to pass on too. fast and no looking back.

I pray my phone goes through the ice. I wouldn't get another. Wife can't complain I don't answer if I don't have one
Every plastics manufacturer claims plastics outfish livebait. So now I use livebait just for the increased challenge.

I have a buddy that got a second phone just because of the better half. We call it his burner! Pretty funny! Insurance is the only way to go. You don't want that phone after it's hit the drink!

They don't tell you that at the phone store, I think they get a commission, former employee told me that, and she was right on!!

Forgetting your bait at home and not noticing until after you drill all your holes.  ;D
It is MY responsibility to make sure my children can enjoy fishing years from now. Make sure your kids can fish.  If you see something ILLEGAL Contact the Massachusetts Environmental Police Radio Room at 1-800-632-8075 at any hour of the day. They might show up if there is enough staff working.

The rice trick works wonders. My android has been wet three times and still good as new. Once it was under water all night.

My large camo jacket has zip-up pockets. The first thing I do when leaving the truck is zip my wallet, phone and keys in those pockets. Those zippers remain zipped until I am back to the truck.

I found a waterproof case for my I-6. Similar to an Otterbox, but waterproof. I agree with mono-mono...if you don't want to spend the $$$ for a case, put it in a zipped  pocket and leave it there. Add the protection of a zip-lock bag and you're good to go!  :o Good Fishing!

was on vaca last week. planned 2 smelt trips to maine. Both were cancelled due to snow. too much snow on ice or unable to access body of water due to no parking cuz of the snow banks, then hurting back shoveling snow from roof. couldn't move much for 3 days.  I hate snow.
2nd worst nightmare? being out on the ice, coming home late only to find out you forgot your wife's birthday.
