13 fishing pickle freefall issue

I asked this little while ago but haven’t found any solutions. My son‘s 13 fishing pickle freefall goes together fine and has been lubed but once you secure the real assembly with the outside nut it does not want to drop any lures no matter how much you adjust the drop speed. When you do pull it by hand it seems to catch every few rotations. Does not occur when the outside nut is not securing the reel. Couple pictures attached, am I missing a washer or something?

I have the ghost version of this, which looks identical to your pics, and I have the same issue. It will drop and seem like it has the correct drop speed selected, but it will catch every now and then. I know the line can get wrapped around funny if you let it have slack but I don't think thats the issue. When dropping with a tight line it just suddenly rebounds. I usually feed it past those points wiht my hands and it starts falling again.

Might be the reel or might be me.
