« on: Jan 14, 2024, 07:59 AM »
Hello all I'm a new newbie here. Very excited for this week. I bought my first vexilar and I'm very excited to get out on the ice. Do you think we will habe safe ice in northeast IN by this next weekend?

I think almost every channel and lake < 50 acres will have fishable ice next weekend. That being said, BRING YOUR SPUD TO MAKE SURE!!

Wind will lay down on Monday night, which **should lock up most waters. Based on current temps that puts us at around 5 inches maybe more by the weekend.

My webcam shows my channel locked up right now, so that could have 10 inches by next weekend.

I will definitely be bringing my spud bar with me. I was thinking if I the wind died down and the Temps we are going to have this week I thought atleast some small lakes would be fishable. Very excited. Thank you!

I just checked about half a dozen small ponds in Iroquois Co, IL and Newton County, IN. All but one were 100% locked up. Ice was between 1-1.75"

I'll be fishing tomorrow afternoon on one of them. It's still only -2° and the forecast low tonight is -7°

As fast as they're picking up ice, the couple shallowest ones I checked will have 3.5-4" by this time tomorrow. They were open water yesterday morning.

High winds in central Indiana have kept most of the large water bodies still open. It was -6 F this morning but a steady 15-18 mph wind kept
the lakes from sealing over. Small, sheltered waters began to skim over this morning and the extended forecast looks good.  Heck,  I've even
got pressure ridges in my bird bath...

I know we are all chomping on the bit to get out, but remember no fish is worth dying over. Be smart stay safe.
