DON'T DRIVE ON THE ICE

Sorry guys, someone had to say it. I bring the wheeler out with me to haul the gear, much lighter and can pull just as much as the truck can carry if you have racks and a sled.
If fishing was work I'd never be sick!

They opened a Starbucks in Fairmont, Mn population 11,000 people last year. Closed a month and a half ago. This isn't city folk, people- these are farmers that will never shell out 4-10 bucks for a cup of coffee when the SuperAmerica gas station directly across the street sells coffee for 50 cents a cup. What were they thinking. PS- they built a brand new building for it. It didn't last a year.

just got new tires for my SD and they are studable, if I want to sit there and put about 70 studs in each tires. The neibor accross the street studs his rear tires during winter. (PA) May be illegal in PA I don't know, chances of getting fined for it are slim.

There is a Starbucks going into the local Target store. This is a town of 25,000 and I don't look for ir to be around for long. People here stayed out of the restaurants around here for a while when coffee went to $1.38 this spring.
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

might want to use tow strap at hole so cable doesn't cut into ice, might be a pain to get back out. just a thought.

I have never tried this before, and have no idea if it'd actually work, but if you're out of options it's worth a try. If it's below freezing, shovel/chip down to solid ice, chip a shallow groove a bit wider and deeper than the size of your chain, hook some chain to your winch cable or come along, lay it on the ice and pour water over it. Wait till it freezes and then pull away. The heavier the vehicle, the longer the chain would have to be. It's definitely time consuming waiting for the water to freeze, unless it's -30, but pulling along the length of chain, parallel to the ice should give plenty of grip in the ice to hold the chain, then pulling straight up out of the ice should free the chain relatively easily. I say "should" a whole lot in there because i've never tried this. Could be an option of last resort for someone.
A bad day of fishing beats anything else I'd be doing today.....

Attach a rope to one end. Release tension on cable, pull rope to remove anchor.

I have a snowmobile because I hate driving out on the ice with my truck. The ideas about the drilling a hole then using something as an anchor I've thought of, but haven't tried. It shouldn't take too much to get a truck unstuck, possibly even some ice screws could work.

Tire chains! Pieces of 2x6! I had a chain in my truck and wrapped it around the wheel when I got stuck. Usually if you're stuck, its because one tire starts spinning on the ice. Otherwise do your best to jam pieces of wood under the wheels.
A Come-a-long with some extra cable will help in emergencies. Drill a hole in the ice and drop down a straight bar or even a thick piece of wood
