2010-2011: Out of hibernation Wyoming!
« on: Sep 25, 2010, 06:31 AM »
Goooood morning Wyoming!

Made the commitment and joined up with the Militia portion of Ice Shanty this year. Great site and I keep coming back to it so, went with the Gold Package got my beanie, stickers and a handful of jigs tossed in. Then had an Ice Shanty flag tossed in, nice.

Had Jammin Jigs deliver not one, not two, but three yes count'em, killer jig packages! Reed Sports has an Ice Armor suit heading my way and another site should have a handful of Hali jigs enroute by now. As soon as they come in I hope to find and own a Clam Pro TC, and a Strike master power auger this year.

Had some GREAT times in the 'Horns this year... A Hike-about with my bro-in-law, some elk booglin', some moose watchin', some trout fishin' and some great campin' where my Quest Viper 2-man tent was put to some serious use, but now it's time to TI bay-beee!!! Think Ice!!!

The SD forum has some action, and it's high time Cowboy Joe Ice Team gets in teh swing of things! Hello LT! Hello Mountain Man! Lipripper! Bottomdweller! Iceneyes! Er-e-is! Olefish! Troutsdaddy! Eyefinder! Gloomis and the rest of you!

Out of hibernation!

Way to go GambOOler, joining the Militia was a priority for us this year too ! I worked for Clayton Moore on his ranch outside Casper for awhile, They had several trout ponds on the ranch, up in the back country that were brimming with 6 to 8 lbs Cuttthrouts and browns ! Caught quite a few on the fly rod, but never got a chance to fish thru the ice for em !  :'(

I've had the Itch for a couple weeks now. :icefish: Drawing plans for a new ATV box, New Auger Rack for the Front of the Snowmobile. I'll be Mobil this year with both Track or Tire.  With no Elk Tag it's going to be a long Fall!

I knew you guys were skinning through the Wyo forum! A Perch-a-Palooza at Healy for a get-together sounds like a good time to kick off the ice season. Family, kids, dogs and a cookout? I'd be on my own but can cook though!

Hey Gamb00ler, That sounds like a plan. I think that Eye that Rodrunner is holding is out of the Tongue River Res. I am going to try to join the Militia this year. I at will a least be purchasing some stickers and a flag.              Laters

Yep..TRR eye..Released. Havn't heard of any quite that big coming from desmet yet. The big ones that are being caught are being kept.. :'(
I preach catch and release at least those 5# and over. Let em spawn and make lots of good eaters. DeSmet has potential to be a great walleye fishery but its going to have to be a team effort.

Planning on hitting DeSmet often this season time permitting. Never pulled a perch, let alone an 'eye out of there and hope to change it up this year! Just pulled the old line off the rods and added a bunch of Jammin' Jigs into the jig boxes, unwrapped some darters - both Salmo and Lindy - into the Plano as well... Thinking another laker rod might be in the works but Mrs G believes 6 is enough???  ::)

More rods, yes?

Added darters/forage minnows/raps

More room here!  ;D

New Jammers!

New Jammers still!!! Shoulda ordered MORE!!!! Gonna have to I guess!!! ::)

there were some guys on here last year that were fishing lakers up through April, that wasn't in the Bighorns was it?  I'm thinking it must have been eastern Wyo, but really don't have a clue  ???  I would love to be able to do a road trip and hit some lakes up in April!

I'm gonna bet we have no real fall weather. Its gonna be warm one day then cold and snow the next. Right now a strong La Nina event is forming in the pacific which means colder winters for us.

Every day we're one day closer to steppin' on da ice! Might have to make an "ice trip" up north if I can get somewhere in 6-8 hrs or so. How early does Devils Lake ice up in the bays? Maybe head north of Sioux Falls or Pierre too?

I lived in Brookings before moving west. Its still another 6 weeks till you could even think about it. Ice fishing started when waterfowl hunting started winding down.

When the first legit cold snap hits I will check out Brooklyn lake for ice. I'll report back and try to coordinate a SE WY ice opener. I know many people are getting new gear and would like to try em out.

Hey Trogdor....if you spent time in Brookings, do you miss the fall and spring walleye bite as much as I do? (spent 4 years at SDSU and still miss that walleye bite!)
A day spent fishing with no fish is still better than any day at work!

Oh yeah. I was there from '99 to '06 at SDSU. I spent most of my falls waterfowl hunting so I didnt get the fall bite as much (early ice was fantastic though)

Spring bite was rockstar on late ice too. One year we were still ice fishing the end of april. We waded out to get on the last bit of rotten ice and killed it. Those were good days.
