Title, i'm hanging up the auger and picking up the fly rod.

The ice is a bit too sketchy for me.
went out this weekend and found that the ice went from 4 feet last weekend to 3 feet this weekend, also the ice is really really soft compared to last weekend ( my auger struggled the last few weekends, this weekend it was a lazer beam- streight through no issues)

Just fyi for all you fine folks!

Short ice season bummer. Still got the mountains. Love hard water. @)

For those of you who are ballsier, it should be fine.

we are in the 40's during the day now, which is plenty warm to hit the river.

The ice is just thinning, and fast up here in the high country (the lake I speak of is at 8100 ft altitude)

The trout are mostly geared up for spawn, with the ladies having loose eggs inside.
their flavor is disappearing, so its that time of year for me to ditch the auger and pick up my waders!
