Staying in a rental cabin this weekend....any suggestions on where to dip a line?

Not too may options there this time of year.  You can't ice Montgomery so that would leave Antero or Tarryall as the closest.  The Blue River below the dam in Dillon to the north for catch and release, flies and lures only if that's what you're after.  Green Mountain is another twenty minutes north of that. 

The most accessible backcountry lake is Kite Lake right outside of Alma.  Depending on snow on the road and your vehicle you can get pretty close to it  - you can drive up to it in the summer.  Kite Lake is heavily fished and the last couple trips there only produced small cutties that were far and few between.  Plan on two feet of ice minimum though - and probably a good amount of wind!
