Buckshot! ;D

Large Jigging Rap, or one of the Knock offs.
That style of lure is my favorite all around for ice fishing.
I may be biased, but I catch lots of fish on 'em.

:) I also like the Jigging Raps and hawger jigA whopper spoons in pearl or chartreuse with a little strip of Walleye belly.
-
under a tipup i use a pink and white or orange and yellow JB Gemneye, but hang a #8 treble off the split ring where you tie the line... http://www.jblures.com/products/images/biggemneyegroup.JPG as for jigging its hard to beat a 1/8 oz buckshot with a fathead head

Hey cold, do you tip these with anything? I have a few of them and never had much luck.

Never tipped them yet. The idea behind using fish skin came from a excellent lure builder we have on site from Finland. The theory behind these builds using the clear coat we use is that the more toothy fish hit them the scent from those fish skins is released. Now not saying scent attracts Eye's I feel that the lure presentations and color scheme is what does the damage catching fish. Also you must fish in areas that have fish and hold fish. Most of the fish we get came from Mid depth in the water column so fishing a point area with 10 fow on top of point and 35 fow at basin we fish the entire water column. Over the deep basin we fished from bottom up to within 10 foot of the ice. Most fish came 10 ft off bottom or better. Jigging these is also a matter of trial as far as using a slow vs hard jig method depending on fish mood. This varies hour by hour. When using electronics you know when your going to get nailed you see that fish charge up off bottom and will see the line go slack on a drop after jigging or nearly get ripped out of your hand if stationary. These types of hits happen 75% of the time compaired to fishing the lure at the fishes level.
Lets try thinking this out for fun. If you use Chubby darters and are crushing the Eyes on them. lets think how a chubby swims. 1 They are somewhat light with a slow decent they don't swim out far from the hole more just up and down. So when using a rap slow down. 2 If useing spoons like cast masters Sweedish pimples those lures use flash and again dont swim well and tipped they get results. So IMO use a slightly harder approach jigging or try a shake method just snapping the lure to get it to flash and go with a flashy side like chrome or gold. 3 Now useing flyer spoons and such you go with a good swimming motion and immitate the flying spoons swiming action. Nothing is ever written in stone when it comes to fishing but think about what works for one method and how you work the lures that do catch fish and try to put the same action to another lure. Who knows it might just add a fish or two to the days catch.
Here is a few newer versions of those old prototypes.
