I just bought a used 6" Lazer hand auger it's like new yet for $11.00. My ? is, is a 6" too much for a 18 volt cordless drill?

I know a few guys who use the De Walt 18v. to spin a 6" auger, it seems like it works fine. Your not going to drill 30 holes with one bat. but if your not going turn the ice into swiss cheese you should be ok.

You'll be fine if the blades are good and sharp. Tried it last year with an older 18v Rigid and Nicads here, just keep the batteries warm and charged.
