Same here as far as ice fishing is concerned I use jigs and lures and swap out to trebles on a small dropper.

i use the eagle claw lazer sharp trebles.....haven't really missed any fish at fault of the hook.  always my fault for getting to excited that i got a flag.  never broke one either, so in my opinion they cant be beat.

a plain hook with a sinker and minnow can be deadly on crappies.. i got a mixed color pack from walmart pretty cheap and thats what ill use when running this set up.

Lazer Trokar are by far the best hooks out there right now but they are very pricey so I use Gamakatsu. I think they are the best moderately priced hooks out there.

I have had pike separate the solder joint on the Eagle Claw lazer Sharp treble hooks in size 0down to Size 14, most of which were less than 20" , but that -ould just be me.

Do they make a Trokar hook for anything besides bass fisherman? A size 10 Trokar  treble would be cool.

gamakatsu octopus... sz 4 and 2.  red plated and the painted ones... tipups on my trebles are sz 6 and 8 red gamakatsu trebles... sharpest hooks I have ever used and have never had to sharpen one.  Sharp hooks are key... whenever I buy spoons or lures, before they go in my box they are sharpened so they stick on my thumbnail...

On my tip-ups I use double rider hooks from Partridge, in a Quicke Strike Rig;

I feel the fish, I set the hook, I land the fish and almost every one is hooked in lips for a easy release...

Been replacing the trebles on my spoons and darters as they break, been using the owner brand with amazing results. Definatly caught fish I wouldn't have otherwise.

Every one of my laker jigs has either Gamakatsu EWG or Mustad KVD wide gap trebles. Usually size 2 but some with size 4. If a fish even thinks about hitting them they are caught!

Only hooks I replace for ice fishing are on my laker spoons.  It seems like all the chemically sharpened round bend trebles do the job.  The last couple years I've been buying my trebles in bulk at the beginning of the season. Whatever premium brand I can get in red in 100 paks.  Usually either Daiichis or Gamakatsus.   It seems like even with retouching the hook points with my diamond hone, the trebles are really only good for about 12 lakers or so.   At that rate, I can't afford to buy the super premium Trokars or Owners all season.

When I started out I tried many different kinds.  I have settled on gamagatzu brand for the last 3 seasons.  Eagle claw imo are junk...even the "lazer sharp" variety.  They are far from lazer sharp!  I had also used mustad and owner brands which are unbelievably sharp but high$$$$$!

Gamagatzu is all I use now.....great quality for the $$$ and can be found anywhere!

#10 or #12 for trout fishing...........#6 or #8 for bass and pickerel fishing.  Always the ones with the upturned eye so they are easy to snell!
