Title: how to catch burbot without the use of bait
Post by: ran7ger on Mar 15, 2008, 09:03 PM
how would you all go about catching burbs without the use of bait?  was wondering if it's be worth setting tip-ups with powerbait or something stupid like that.  we'll be fishing in an area that prohibits use of fish parts, and any meat - i.e. beefheart, chicken liver - as bait.  caught them on yellow double tails and glow jigs, but was hoping someone might have an idea as to what a guy could use for the tip-ups...any ideas will be tried, and will post with how it goes!

I think these would work pretty good.

I have not tried it yet, but the burbot may also like some of those Yum baits with live prey technology, like the Yum Samurai Curl tail.

They may even go for the Exude series of lures by Mr. Twister.
If I had to pick, I would try the 4" curly tail grub in Exude.
Just a thought. :)

thanks guys, no burbs, but did get some nice pike and whitefish...guess real bait may be the only way to go, but could be they'd all spawned and gone deep...who knows  :D
