floor on runners or a flat floor.
« on: Dec 13, 2010, 12:35 PM »
Working on design for a shack.  Is it better to have the shack up on ski's or to build a tobagon style floor?  I was planning a tobagon style floor but there are alot of home made's on ski's.  I'd quess the friction would be lower with a tobogan style floor.  What would be the advantage of the ski's?

If it is a home made permanent shack, I would go with runners.

If you are going to leave it in one spot for any extended period of time, a tobaggan style floor may freeze in pretty hard.

This could lead to damage if you try to move it.

Hope this helps,

The toboggan style works nice for portables. The shack rides on top of the snow. Radius the leading edge into the snow. We made one narrow enough to use galvanized sheet metal (one guy was an HVAC installer) on the bottom. We had to drill some holes inside for screw in ice anchors. It took off one time.
