You kind a killed it for me right there,  if it's like other braids then it will freeze on the spool when I move out of my warm portable and that gets annoying real fast.

My sentiments exactly!
I gave Fireline a fair trial on the ice, but it didn't last long.
I'll stick with Floroclear. A friend also highly recommended CX...

I agree with Slip...if you are in your trap with a heater...you are all set.
I personally like the Cajun red while fishing outside. It is highly visible out of the water...and completely disappears in the water. I have never been a fan of braided line, but this year I have one of my St. Croix/Cetus combos spooled with it just for night fishing for Eyes in the Trap. I have a feeling I won't be disappointed.

Lightest i've found so far is 3 lb, which still isn't bad for diameter.  Just make sure you buy the ice fishing type for ice fishing.  I found out the regular stuff is stiffer from the get go, and not as easy to work with on the ice.

Tried the 2# and it needs a heavy jig to take the slack out.
It is strong but I'm not impressed, at least for ice fishing.
I'm going back to my Berkley Vanish Fluorocarbon. 8)

Give it a good pull before you drop it through the ice, and it will straighten out for the most part.  Still much more sensative than mono.  I tried vanish, and its the worst floro ive ever used in my life.  Took it off after one trip out on the river.  You should try pline or seaguar floro, its a much better line imho.
