How common are broken pop up hub poles? Does it happen often?

Been using popups for over 25 years without breaking a pole.

Smaller diameter poles ..in older ice hubs and hunting blinds were fairly common for issues ..both the poles and the poles ends and hubs sockets were troublesome . I believe since most went with 11mm poles and different socket design/technology its less common . Just don't force any thing when setting up or taking down .

If it wont easily open or close you have a hub tangled, have to go inside and sort it out or they will break.

I have broke 2 poles in about 15 years.  Both have been when it was set up and had 50 mph winds.  Easy to repair just remove the pole and keep the hub end and splice in a new pole.  I just use the pole repair kits for backpacker tents and then use epoxy inside the little metal splice tub.  I use the chimney sweeper poles from Home Depot.  They are about the right size and are long enough.  Last i put a big piece of heat shrink over the whole area.  Looks and works great

My pole broke because it went tumbleweed down the lake during a high wind...

We have the 6x12 Guide Gear hub. My son and his friend have used it a couple times this year. They broke at 3 maybe 4 poles folding it last time. Probably in a hurry. Sportman's Guide does not offer replacement poles.Got a cheap tent at the Goodwill to rob the poles from. HT poles look to be the cheapest if they are the correct length.

Bomgars sells fiberglass poles that are the perfect size for the Eskimo Quick Fish 3 and probably others.
Cheap like $4.
One pole broke last season and I just cut the rod flush with the end connector. Drilled out the fiberglass & glue. Mixed up some quick set Epoxy and glued the new pole in the the end connector.
If I recall they are 3/8" x 4' or there abouts. Same diameter as the factory poles. Gray in color.
Check you farm and home centers.

Closest I could find at farm and fleet was driveway markers, but they are only 5/16". Bought 1 just to try.

I saw a thread some where, maybe on IS, where a guy showed how to make replacements out of fiberglass fence posts from TSC. I have a broken one on a hunting blind that is broken that I need to replace.

Not sure what size your blind is ..but replaced an entire hub assemble ..hub mechanics have changed a lot ..thicker poles and better hubs..mine busted off the die cast ears of the pole into the hub .
