How is the ice around the Twin Cities?
« on: Dec 11, 2009, 09:50 PM »
Hey everyone,

Has anyone had a chance to check the ice conditions around the TC area?  I am in Rosemount and the few smaller ponds around here seem good to go.  Anyone checked Prior?  Thanks.

Hey everyone,

So being that I am the only one who has replied to my own posting I can only surmise a couple of things:  1) No one else on this board lives down in this neck of the woods 2) Those that do live in this neck of the woods have been just as busy as I have been and unable to check the lakes 3) People are nervous of giving a "rookie" any information 4) No one gives a hoot!  I'll leave it up to you to decide.

According to accounts on other boards, there are folks fishing on Paradise Bay on Prior, O'Dowd, and others.  The ice seems to be 4-5" in most areas, but as always, keep checking as you go.  Hope to get out sometime this week.  ;D

or 5) everybody's out fishing while you're waiting for reports  ::)  I was on Prior yesterday in Paradise but there are even parts of that bay that are sketchy! Just use you spud keep poking holes but you should be ok.

If I'm not fishing or hunting right now, you can bet that I\'m thinking about it!

True.  Should have known a little whining wouldn't get me anywhere.  Thanks for the report.  I hope to be on the ice in a few days.  Thanks again.

I live just about 3 miles NE of you.  (Scratch #1).  This is a very busy time of year for me (#2 is correct) and I won't even be able to think about ice fishing until just before Christmas. If I hear anything from my ice fishing friends, I'll let you know. (Scratch #3 and #4).
Good luck if you get out.  Let us know how you do!

Some moron parked out in the middle of South Center Lake up by Lindstrom with a full size pickup.  So I assume the ice up here is safe for walking, and possibly ATV's or sleds.  Not sure if the truck stayed on the ice or not; I just noticed him as I drove home after work.

WOW he must have lost a bet or something! I guess as long as he stayed dry more power to him but I wouldn't do that yet!

6"+ on most of the lakes around the New Prague area. With the weather forecast for the next week, it will probably be driveable (safely) within a week or so.

I think it's because people are more into updating the section for reports and conditions.  :)  At least it looks like a lot view counts.

Went out this morning 8 inches thick.  Only 2 little perch, but my son caught his all by himself.  Proud moment.
