Out for a morning tour today checking ice conditions after last Saturday’s trip. And most areas were pretty consistent for thickness 5-6”even with the warm windy rainy weather we’ve been having. Also found open water and some very soft areas quite a ways out from shore So caution should still be priority. Did get a few hours of fishing in and caught a bunch of nice eater size 15-16”walleyes  and of course Pike. Maybe a Couple evening trips this week. taking advantage of the early ice walleye bite....who knows if or when the bite will shut down Like in years past.

Does anyone know of a good fishing app? Looking for depth maps, bite times and such?

There's online depth charts.  If you want gps capability you'll need to buy the app.

As for bite times, I've found pretty much any of those "charts" are bs.  Best bites are typically early morning and late afternoon/early evening, with a lull around lunch until mid aft.

Fished the launch area this morning, tried 4 different areas, drilled over 50 holes, only 5 small perch.  Didn't stay for the afternoon/evening bite.

By the launches and right across to the West side, a good 6 to 8 inches.  No snow cover at all.  Need cleats for sure.

I was out in front of the boat launches today as well. Got out around 10 but only had a few nibbles till about 2pm. Then it poured on.  Moved around a lot too. Drilled maybe 20 holes before I settled in.

Hey Church, I used one of those hawgers for the first time. I’m definitely a fan!!

I slept in this morning, as someone said I could use the beauty sleep.  Went out this afternoon and fished from 2:45 to 5:30 and ended up catching 9 Walleye and way to many perch.  There were no small Walleye.  From 2 lbs up to 8 lbs.

All were caught on chartreuse hawger, with perch eye.

On a different note, one of our ice shanty regulars (speckspotter), just got out of the hospital after ankle/foot surgery.  He is going to be layed
up for a period of time and won't be able to do much fishing for awhile.  I hope the operation went well speckspotter, and your down time won't
be as long as they said.  Looking to seeing you fishing across the fence from me when you are mobile.

There I think I got it that time.

All the big ones were released and weren't handled, just got them up on the ice, hooked removed while lying on the ice, quick picture,
and nudged back down the hole.

Congrats on a great day CR. I will be fishing in my mind and following these posts during the recovery. Thanks for the good wishes. I just wish I would have paid more attention to people when they said "you are going to regret doing that when you are over 40.'

What did they know? They were all old at the time.

Beauty fish right there Churchill. Glad I picked up some hawger spoons in green, and good on you for the release of the big ones.

Rip, I got all my pictures messed up.  That last picture might be the 6 lber (close to 24 inches).

As I said, I didn't pick any of them up, just were laying on the ice for a picture and then back down the hole.

The other bigger one was 27 and a little, I think that is give or take 8 lbs.  They are back in the water waiting.
I can't tell the difference between 3 inches in a picture, unlike some women I know.

Is there about 5-6" on blackstrap? What are some good spots for perch? Thinking of going tomorrow with my roomie and want to make sure there is enough ice and that we maybe have a chance of actually catching something lol. I also bought some of those 1/8 ounce chartreuse hawger spoons. How do I use those?

Went for sunset bite at the park entrance. 6ish inch of ice. Good with cleats. Caught mostly small walleyes with a bare spoon except this last one at 5:30.

Went out again by myself this afternoon, fished from 1:30 to 5:15.  Caught way to many perch again, and 4 Walleye this time.  Fished the same hole
as yesterday afternoon.  Kept 9 perch (no jumbos), and one Walleye, the other Walleye were to big.

Like Rip said, can't believe the Walleye action so far......will it last all winter.

The ice is a good 7 inch, and closer to 9 in some areas.

How Deep
Hi guys been out once this year by the second boat launch from 3:30 to 5:30 using green Hauger with small minnow in 24 feet of water. We did not even have a bite. Would any off you mind posting what depth your fishing when catching your walleye and perch. Curious that I might be fishing to deep. Thanks for any info.

The last 2 afternoons I was fishing in that hole that was 24 ft.  We always fish in 20 to 24 feet of water.

Don't be scared to move around and drill lot's of holes, and hole hope.

That area you were in always produces fish.  Don't give up.  Once you can drive on, you will be able to try more areas.

And don't give up on the green hawger......lol.   That's all I  have used for the last 4 years.

Churchill makes a great point about moving.  If you are not getting bites (or marking fish if you have sonar), move.  Move until you find them.
Get outside.  It does a body and mind good!

I've been fishing for walleye at 15ish feet of water around sunset this year. I used to fish at 25ish feet of water in previous years. Both depth work. More perch were caught at deeper water.

not sure if your new to ice fishing or not but there is tons of info here on ice shanty or on the internet (youtube) on how to or begin to find fish through the ice. do some research experiment with different depths. as others mentioned electronics would really help out. if anything it will make up your mind for you to move to another area if its in your budget. or you can fish around where other anglers are or were just don't crowd in on anyone one. good luck.... on a different note out with some friends yesterday over at blackrock for an early morning trip and the three of us were marking, seeing ,and catching pretty well all day. great day for sure even with the high winds.
