Skunked at Sebago
« on: Feb 19, 2018, 09:20 PM »
First time fishing Sebago was a bust. Hooked into one but it shook the hook. Used laker takers in about 120 fow. I marked a lot and a fair amount chased but didn't want to bite. Any tips on how to get the chasers to hit it?

when they chase but don't take I was always told to downsize your lure. Laker taker is pretty big, no?

I was thinking of tubes. is 3/8 oz big enough? Yeah laker takers are huge. That is all I use in NY and I do pretty well. I will have to try downsizing though.

I’ve only iced fished on Sebago three times, and caught the only one that did bite. I was using a rattle spoon that was about 1.5” long with no bait, so it was a rather small lure for the 25” fish but he chased it about 15’ up before smashing it. Just keep reeling/jigging up steady when they chase. Another thing that I’ve seen fish getting caught on are 3-4” plastic minnow baits on jig heads, I’ll be trying my favorite gulp minnows next time I go out.
