Anybody have ice reports in the Webster/Danbury area?

If I'm not fishing or hunting right now, you can bet that I\'m thinking about it!

I was on one of the smaller bays off of Lake Holcombe. I spudded my way out to about 7' of water.
I was on approximately 2" - 2 1/2" of good black ice and 2" of solid frozen slush

Anywhere from 2"-5" of ice now where the snow blew off.

At home!

Found some ice with no snow!

Found some nicer perch!

Iceshanty- lets see another! that was awesome. Well, i think the bigger lakes around me are still open, so the snow won't affect them too much, so the single digits the next couple of says will get some ice goin! maybe sunday ill be out..

Scott,

How far north (or south) did you have to go?  I'm a little less than an hour north/west of you, and the lakes around here are still pretty iffy.  I haven't checked any myself, but driving by, it looks like there's a lot of snow that didn't blow off.  Many black spots where water pushed up.  A friend checked one of the local small lakes and it only has two thin layers of ice with snow/slush on top and in between.  One good shot with the chisel went through, so not fishable yet.  I'll do some checking tomorrow, but I'm not very hopefull.  I wish we would have had open water when this snow hit.  As it is, we'll have crappy ice for the next month and probably all year.  If this snow is any indication of how this year is going to go, I'm already looking forward to tilling the garden.

I'm planing on fishing Burnet Island in Cornell this sat. I know there's guys fishing there already. Does anybody in the Eau Claire area know if Altoona, or Wissota are even skimmed over yet??
I live by the Yellow River I saw tracks on the ice Friday that were made on Wed. or Thur. where the river opens in to Moon Bay. I think the guy who walk out on it is crazy it was open water 2 day before. I'm going up to Cornell Brunet Island Sunday unless I get my new Commando Sat. then I'll be putting that together.

I fished Green Lake for the first time this season and caught over 50 perch...none of them were big enough to keep! Saw these two guys that caught 4 northern pike on tip-ups, all of them being over 22 inches!   :o Still, it was a great first trip on the lake this season. All of the pre-ice anticipation and preperation has finally paid off!  :icefish:

Here's the scoop,

Burnet Island, in Cornell - 4-5 inches of good ice. Panfish are biting, go on a sunny day. (They no like clouds)

Lake Altoona, in Eau Claire - 3-4 inches of good ice. Use the Altoona Park landing, Northshore Drive is a mess. It hasn't been plowed, and the road and landing (if you can call it a landing) are in bad shape. I got my 4x4 chevy stuck at the bottom of the hill, took about 45min to go 50 yrds and get out. (no locker = 2x2 ???)

So far so good. I've got fish in the freezer, and snow on the gear, welcome to winter boys!! ;D

went for a ride on sat and all around iron river there was 2.5 - 3in of solid black ice but just about every where i went had about 1in of water on top of the ice then a layer of about an in or two of snow. not good the lakes had not got anymore ice from weds when i had checked them and it was -25*f at night for wed, thurs, and fri, so i don't know what to think.
thats the biggest smelt i've ever seen

I was out on Lake Nokomis <Tomahawk, WI> Saturday and Sunday 4-6 inches of ice in some spots, snow covered areas are slushy and you will fall through if you are not careful,  got a couple flags but no fish, I suspect crappies were hitting my shiner, I sat and jigged but was unable to come up with anything. I did see one guy pull up a Northern.

Unbelievable some guys were pulling out there perm shacks that weighed in at over 800 lbs

It will be a little longer before I put my shack out there

Gus?  Were you by chance over where the outpost used to be?  Thinking of going there on Sunday as there is no water in the bay where my families cottage is.  (same bay as Gators and While-a-way)

Long Lake in Washburn County has 4-6" of good ice on the south side of the lake near Props Bar. We were the first ones on the ice in the area - somewhat of an unsettling feeling. Ventured out from shore a ways into 34 feet of water. That is where the 4" reading came from. I would recommend foot travel for now - ice was spotty.
