Ha, first time I've checked this site in a while and we have our first 2017/18 season post.  Yes, only a few more months.  I have a good feeling about this year...

Can hardly wait, but then again with these 80's plus days yet not ready to put away the boat.  3 species today Walleye, Crappies, and a surprise Gill.  ;D

You can have St. Mary's all to your self Mike.  I get enough of the slimy things on Aurora.

Exciting stuff!

I'm extremely anxious for this ice fishing season that it's making me sick.  Here in the coming months I will actually be relocating from Michigan to far Eastern Colorado for work..

It's a bit uneasy leaving behind the area and lakes you have grown up fishing and moving to an area where the nearest public access is around an hour away.  Im trying to condition myself to the fact that I won't be able to get out and fish as much as I was blessed to in the lake-filled county I lived in in Michigan.

With that said, I'm still looking forward to the new adventure and fishing-filled weekend trips to the mountains (and surrounding areas)!

Hopefully Mother Nature will cool off early and bless us all with a long and safe ice fishing season!

Like Slayer said, 1st ice honors is always fun.  Not about what you catch -- ice is ice, fish are fish!

And speaking of first ice, I think it won't be long!  Check it out:

NOAA in Riverton, WY has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Wyoming’s Tetons and more WY locations for Thursday night through Saturday morning.
"SNOW AMOUNTS...4 to 8 inches possible above 8500 feet and 8 to 12 inches above 10000 feet, along with local amounts of 16 inches possible."

Welcome 40.  Myself, I love eastern CO.  I look forward to bird hunting out there in the fall.  It can be pretty good some years and it's always nice to get out of the front range traffic and find some gravel roads that you have all to yourself.  Sadly there's not a lot of water out there but what there is can be productive some years...both for birds and fish.  Use caution on our ice at all times especially at lower elevations and consider jumping into Nebraska if you are in NE part of the state...might even find a Walleye or two.  Valentine Refuge is a bucket list trip for me and might be well worth the drive for you if you have a thing for big Gills like I do.  All in all you can find good spots but there's not nearly as much water as your used too and you'll likely spend more $ on gas to reach what there is  than you do in the UP.

Oh yeah...Don't let Slayer's fish porn get to you.  It's just part of fishing Colorado.

Welcome 40 just be leery of the lower elevations ice, not the same quality that you are used to.

I'm predicting 34 days until first fishable ice in Colorado.  Last few years have been warm in late October but I think this year will be different.

Just picked up my first set of ice fishing gear.  I now have a shanty (frabill outpost), a hummingbird ice 45, a strike master auger (8 "), small sled, a few poles and assorted jigs.  Bought used from a fella for a great price. I already had a few poles, ice cleats, bucket, and cold weather clothes. What else do I need to join the ranks?  I'll be fishing DeWeese, and 11 mile mostly.  Feels good to finally have my own gear.  Lets go ice!

Bring some 1/4 oz. Kastmasters to 11-mile. Gold, Silver/orange, Rainbow.

Will do, thanks for the advice.  I believe I have some in my stream kit for trout.  When can we expect ice to start making an appearance at 11 mile?

I place an order thru Cabelas for some Tungsten jig which are pretty cheap, but they all are on Backorder until Nov. Got 30 Jigs for $1.25 each, in which the original prices were 1.75-2.15 each, not too bad of a price deal since they are made by Custom jigs and spin
