After my buddie and me got done fishing, we wratchet strapt the shanty to the tool box(bad idea). As we were going down the road, the dang thing blew out of the truck. Both our VEXLAIRS were in the shanty. His Vex made it out alright. My Vex Got destroyed. It still works, but the plastic base broke.

Dang! Sorry to hear that. Hope the rest of the gear faired well.
Maybe Vex would be willing to fix it for you for free since it survived a dump out of the back of a truck with a cracked case yet still works.

Sorry to hear about this. I use to straps across the bed, it keeps the shanty or sled from popping out of the truck.

sucks, its happened to me twice. first time the fish trap pro blew out (empty) of the bed of my truck when a wind gust hit while ripping down rte 30. It flew like 25 feet up into the air, just missed coming down on my buddies windshield (he was following close behind and said he about crapped himself) did a couple barrel rolls along the shoulder and came to a rest - no damage except for a rip on the cover and a few bent support polls.

a few weeks ago i was at a traffic light, went to go when it turned green, and my shanty slid back into the tailgate, the tailgate popped open and out goes the yukon, fully loaded with auger, gear, flasher, heater etc...slidding along the road

only loss though was the heater element cracked.

I think im going to buy a new ice shanty, the other one is a little trashed after it flew out of the truck. It was a nice shanty, but it can be replaced. I think im going to get a fish trap pro. Maybe it wont fly out of the truck as easially!

my otter sled blew out of the back of my truck in a windstorm, didnt realize it till it was gone. Used that excuse to buy a new shack, it kinda poofs up going down the road, so i make sure its strapped in good now

Could get a travel cover for the new one. If it flies out again hopefully the cover will help keep the contents in place.

I was thinking about getting a new case for it, but i dont think its going to need it. I rigged it with rope so i can carry it around. The vex looks kinda funny, but it works great.

I know how you feel last year I lost my Jet Sled and Strikemaster auger and 2 rods out of my pickup bed last year at leat you got all your stuff back

Two years ago in Alaska I was running to back from pulling out our pontoon boats and had a roof rack failure.
On the roof rack was a car top carrier with 2 one man pontoons strapped to it. The drip rails on my car were those plastic trim pieces that failed the whole works intact seperated from the car like tha space shuttle dropping it's solid booster rockets!!!!

As I figured out what was going on I started to slow down until I noticed the ejected carco was catching up so I had to speed up a bit.
It finally slowed down and with a mind of it's own pulled over to the shoulder and stopped.
The damage done 2 bent drip rail mouldings and one badly dammaged pontoon boat.
I managed to repair the mouldings when I got home and the toon was my buddies.

He purchased it from Costco and the stores General Manager (a friend of his) said "Just return it, no problem"

I now have a different vehicle with a factory installed roof rack.

flying shanties suck my buddy had this happen a couple yrs ago on the interstate but his got smoked by the semi behind him he managed to salvage a few jigs and a reel but the rest was scrap poor guy back to sittin on a bucket for him

I had a 12 ft. steel boat fly out of my truck once back in Michigan. I was on the way to the bait shop with some AC/DC blasting in the cab. Didn,t notice a thing. Went into the baitshop....bought minnows and freaked when I came out of the store. I thought somebody stole my boat. I was yelling at the top of my lungs about the fate of the boat thief when two guys came dragging my boat down the street. Very humbling.

I would really give those vexilars a work out and make sure you didn't damage the transducer. There are crystals in there like glass and if those are broke that thing is as good as junk.
