Merritt
« on: Jan 30, 2019, 05:29 PM »
Has anybody been on Merritt or the Refuge lakes recently?  I've never been there and was thinking of trying it in the next week.  How are the ice conditions and where is the nearest Bait and lodging?  We would be coming from the North.
Thanks for any info.

Warm temps and wind at the end of last week were hard on ice conditions. Est 70% of the sandhill lakes from the Refuge west have areas of open water. There is still fishable ice but use all safety precautions.

Merritt ice held. They had a tourney there last Sunday which included riding atv's. Boundaries were Dead Duck on the Snake, mouth of main lake and about all of the Boardman. After the wind, heaves are iffy at best, and any open water I'm personally not going within a 1/2 mile of period. There was plenty of current, both wind and water, doing some funky things to that ice.

This is the worst ice year I can remember due to inconsistent conditions. Please use extreme safety measures at all times!
