Burbot Tips??!
« on: Mar 05, 2020, 04:45 PM »
Heading up to Willoughby this weekend and really want to get on some burbot! Anyone have any advice? baits? what depths they're biting at?

From what I've read it looks like large/heavy jigs and spoons.. Any insight would be much appreciated.
Thanks

i dont know about there but i have caught them on a spoon with meat in champlain. a video i recently watched showed a guy using a red-eye spoon with a swivel added between the spoon and the hook with perch belly on it.

Super easy to catch after dark. Just put a half a dead perch or a whole crawler on bottom on a tip up. Had the best luck in 30 to 40 fow. Good luck!

It’s about the only thing you can catch at Seymour you should come here.Drop a shiner on the bottom. Don’t even try and get the hook out just cut the line off if you’re gonna throw them back

Went to Willo last night. Me and two groups were out until 9:45pm or so and I was the only one who managed a burbot - 12" or so. I had 5 tipups out with cut fatheads in 10-40 FOW and was jigging another. Ice was fine, launch was a bit soft/melted. Full moon did come out for a bit so that was pretty cool.
