Cool (or "cold", may be more appropriate)!!

I'll be wearing a green coat and have a red auger.  Stop by and say hello.

re your pm - I am not sure if the state park area is also called Lees State Park.  Maybe someone else knows.  The one I go to is not far north of Route 80 on the west side of the lake.  Lst year, there was a bait shop at 206 Landing Road (973) 770-8318, and one right at the tip of the lake, across the street to the right as you make the left-hand turn (973) 398-5707.

I haven't tried calling them this year, so I don't know if they are open yet.

Lee's Park is on the east shore and they don't let us fish there!  >:(
No safe ice there yet either.

The bait shop your thinking about is Lakes End MArina ... right in Landing.  Normally they are open in the morning when the ice is there and the fisherman are too.

Last weekend on Saturday (arounf 11 am) they were closed.

Im going to try and get out there Saturday too :D

Yes but they don't allow fishing from the docks when they're open and they close for the winter and fence it off. They don't want the liability is what I heard.

Ahhhhhhh .. i can see that i guess.

I rember last year driving by there and seeing the fence .. it wasnt until a month ago i realized that that was a county park though.

Its harder and harder to get access to fish these days.

IB:

The state park is not too far north of route 80.  If you go to the New Jersey DEP website and look at the state park section you can get directions.  I forget what exit it is, but once you get off route 80, you pretty much just follow the signs.  When you hit the light at the intersection where the lake is right in front of you, go to the left and the park entrance is will be right up the road on your right.

I don't know if the ice is safe yet, hopefully someone will post a report.

The storm coming in tonight is starting as snow then changing over to sleet/freezing rain then into rain and being in the 40* range for Friday. Then in the lower 30* range for Sat/Sun. Do you think this will kill the fishable ice?

I dont think its going to effect the ice too much.  ITs going to snow then change to sleet ... by the time some rain mixes in it should be all but over in the northern areas .. plus its colder there to begin with.  Also, there is some snow cover and this does wonders to absorb that nasty rain.

Once this moves through its going to get cold again with arctic air moving in and looking clear for at least the next week.

Just be careful .... check the thickness and watch for other people out.  This early in the year its anyones guess as to the thickness.  Better safe than sorry

Ill be at hopatcong Sunday... hopefully icefishing :D ... good luck to all.
