Anyone go to Chesterfield this weekend?

I was up there last weekend and did well, I am planning on going next weekend with my wife for a couple of days.  Just wondering how the ice is doing, we are losing all our ice here (Mini Cassia area).  Was planning on taking the ATV again.

We were up there and caught 5 between the 3 of us!  We didn't have a ton of luck but it was a beautiful day so awesome fishing!  I was wondering if anyone knew about a fishing derby up there at Chesterfield?  me and some buddies would like to get into the derby.  Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Have not heard anything on the derby for this year. In fact there is no annoucement or any information at all on ISU's department of ecology website. Maybe they are not having it this year??

Man i hope that is not the case! We missed out on it last year and we were making sure we made it out this year!  i'll keep my eye out and if anyone else has good news let us know!

Your Welcome! Fishing was average at last years tournament and we came in just short of placing. They do put on a good derby with some good raffle prizes. Not sure how fast it will fill up since it is a mail in registration and I can't find anywhere where they post the status of people registered. I did have a friend last year that sent his in somewhat late and still got in. They will send you an email once your registration has been received.

They have all kinds of stuff related to ice fishing... Ice rods, tackle, sleds, tents,etc... I did see the AF derby. Not sure if I will do that one this year. I am still trying to decide. I am doing the Devil Creek derby this weekend. Can't wait!!!

Yep, 14'' good clear ice..  Fished today and landed 2 lunkers.  A 4lber and 5lber.  So glad we left American Falls to fish Chesterfield.

so what is the best thing to use at chesterfield i have heard rumor of many different things anyone experienced better luck on any particular set up?  We have tried powerbait worms, and jigs, i just aint that good at jiggen!   but willing to learn if needs be? any particular depth the fish at chesterfield are more active?

last weekend I caught most of mine jigging near the bottom with a white jig tipped with a mealworm.  My baited rods caught some, and had a lot of hits, but the hits were soft and the hook up ratio was  poor.  I had a blast with the group I was with, everyone doing well.  I am going Friday and Saturday again, this time with the wife.  It will be her first time to ice fish.

Those were nice because it rained the night before and there was water on top of the ice, which also made it really slick.

I just called the dept. of stream ecology today to see if they have any entries left for the derby. The kid I spoke to said he thought that they have received well over 150 and that I would be wasting my time to send the money as they have reached their maximum number of derby participants. Looks like I'm out of luck this year!
