Is it true that the flathead res no longer has a limit or size restrictions on pike?
-
No it is not true. From page 5 of the 2018-2019 regulations:
Northern pike: 5 fish, minimum size limit 18 inches. (But
see exception at Part II, Section 3 E (2) for Lower Flathead
River).
This is the Flathead section on page 6 that is referred to above:
Northern pike: 15 fish any length from Se̓liš
Ksanka Ql̓ispe̓ (SKQ) Dam (formerly Kerr Dam)
downstream to the Reservation Boundary
I would encourage people to read the regulations as it is your responsibility to know them: http://www.csktribes.org/component/rsfiles/download-file/files?path=NRD%2F2018-2019+Hunting+Fishing+and+Recreation+Regulations+for+Non-Members.pdf

How is Se̓liš Ksanka Ql̓ispe̓ actually pronounced?
-
So i just talked to a warden and he said as of March 2018 that there is no limit or size for pike. Phone number 1406 883 2888
-
no size limit on the lower river, all other bodies of water as of right now 18'' minimum....they are revisiting some of the restrictions due to introduction of the pike into certain waters. trust me we work with them daily where i work and we have asked multiple times.
-
I hope they make some drastic changes....

How is Se̓liš Ksanka Ql̓ispe̓ actually pronounced?
And how does a dam in Montana get a Croatian name?
-
Salish Indian language Binx?
-
its a combination of salish, kootenai, and Pend d’Oreille.
pronounced: SEH-leesh, k-SAHN-kah and q-leese-PEH Dam
essentially they named the dam for the 3 tribes that make up the Counterfeited Salish and Kootenai Tribes aka CSKT
-
And how does a dam in Montana get a Croatian name?
its not Croatian, its the language of the tribes in the area. a simple google search will not translate native language, it will however get the closest thing that it "looks" like. Grew up here and learned abit of the Salish part of it. also the dam if you look at my other post is a combination of the 3 main languages spoken here before the missionaries etc came in.
-
this is the only thing ive ever found to learn how to pronunciate characters. Other than talking to members in person:)
-
Yup alot of the language is past down via verbal teachings. there has been alot of time and effort put into putting this language and the others into actual text and written down to try and preserve it. Really cool to see the development of it since i was first in class in mission for the language then again in college. Also another big thing is that the language may be spoken different by different bands of the respective tribe. Its all about what family etc they learned it from and how it was taught to them. so you have dialects of the same language even in a very "small" area that was the originally occupied by the tribes.

Of course! Google translate couldn't, pegged as Croatian :roflmao: ::)
Add on - I had this typed to post right behind missoula's reply #7. At least one of you beat me to posting so when I hit "Post" my reply didn't because of the message the I may want to modify my reply. Didn't see it and left the page, did some other stuff re-looked at the thread to find my reply didn't.
This happens fairly often (mostly because I can be a little verbose). How do you recover what might be 15 minutes or more or thought process and typing? In Chrome, if you hover over the "New Tab" thingy at the top, right click and select "Reopen Closed Tab" you can get to it. Might have to go through everything else you did after that reply tab closed but you'll get there. Eventually one will open with a "Reconfirm Submission" message, click OK and reload the page. Voila! Unposted reply in it's entirety complete with "Modify Message" warning. Click Post and it does, except not where you'd intended but at the end of the thread.

Hey MT_BINX, I have trouble pronouncing my name, Herb. Are the tribe going to be offended if I just keep calling it Kerr?
-
90% of the guys up here still call it Kerr, or just simple SKQ Dam or CSKT Dam. its just a reference point now days. i grew up calling it Kerr and probably will die calling it Kerr lol.

Were you prestrašen?

Thank! I know I would look like a total retard trying to say those words in a conversation.
-

Just like Hwy 51 in WI. Now it's supposed to be I-39. It'll always be 51 to me. Same thing only I can pronounce I-39 ;)

Just like Ulm Pishkun will always be “Ulm Pishkun” in my book, haha.

And blue grouse will always be blue grouse. Not dusky grouse.

I'm thinking that's a "back East thing"? ::) :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:

Ahahahahahahahaha! Ya got me
"Bet someone is sittin' back east sayin', Why don't he write?"...
-
I haven't called the warden, but the fwp regulations and the tribal regulations both have stated limits in writing. I would follow that over what someone verbally "told me". That is the safest way to stay out of trouble.

I wonder if anyone is stuck on wapiti?
-
Don't new regulations take effect the first of Mar? Maybe the change is in the new regulations. Has anyone seen the new regs?
-
Like I said in an early post call them

I guess I am confused about what you are now asking. You have asked if we've heard anything, and our advice on the matter. We have all given what we thought are solid answers to help you out, but you insist on us calling an officer who you have apparently talked to already and have made up mind on the subject? At this point you can do whatever you like, but whatever is in writing will always trump word of mouth, just be careful.
-
Would someone else call and see what answer they get from a fish cop.
