I am sure it may be a little too early for this, but has anyone tried the new "Rattl'n Flyer Spoon" yet? Just read the latest Ice Team perch article and there seemed to be a pretty interesting section on using these lures. Sounds like this method with these lures may be worth trying  :)

they look pretty sweet. I am gonna try rigging one up with about a 3" dropper.

I like the arnold fairy jig but am going to have to pick up a couple halis and airplane jigs this year.  I just have a hard time taking the fairy jig off, the little blades fluttering around just kills the perch, crappies, bluegills, trout. etc.  Usally tip with 2 spikes or two waxworms.  good fishin

Cast Master with a minnow on it. Can someone tell me what oak leaf grubs are and what they look like?

Better known as the Crane Fly Larve.  Look like a fuzzless caterpiller, about the same size, usually found by digging through leaf matter that's fallen into a stream and collected at the base of a riffle.
Thanks, Dad, for taking the time to show me how to fish!!

I thought they did too TKO. Will have to find a couple of them this year and see how they work. Liked the idea of letting them free fall out from under the hold and dragging them back. Guess this may even work with air planes and the like?

If you don't have to pick thru alot of small fish, Hali and waxxie/eye/minnow head is hard to beat. Especially as a search lure b/c when I drill holes to find fish, I usually drill 10-20 at a time and I don't clean each one out.  Hali will slide right thru a fair amount of slush.  Jiggin Raps work great for picking the bigger fish out of a pack of small ones.

I also like the Hali for searching, and a gold Phoebe, too. Better throw in a Forage minnow as well, with a Hali dropper chain and hook. This is like talking about food when you're hungry! Not even close to having ice in this part of the world.

You guys will play hell trying to locate the original airplane jig, northland discontinued them over a year ago.  You might be able to find some in small out of the way shops.  All the new models look like a jiggin rap with the fins and belly treble.  Hopefully the demand brings this jig back, its good for so many types of fish with the different sizes that were available. The larger ones were awesome for Lake Erie perch, and even tipped with a good sized golden for big pike.  Even went as far as tipping smelt for lakers

Stupid question but here goes, When jiggijng the hali jig where do you tie the line at the lure . Near the eye by the dropper or at the other end  or doesn't it matter.

Tie at the end opposite of the chain

Have never tried them for perch polarf. I have some very small ones, 1/64th oz. I believe. I usually use them to catch bluegills with. I would imagine the bigger sizes would do well on the perch in deeper water. Alot of action to the lures.
