When you fish the bay do you set tip ups or just focus on jigging?

Always have 1 per person with us. We set up with a jigging rod and deadstick in the shelter and a tip up (3rd line) about 10-15 yards away (per person). I would highly recommend 8-10# F.C. leader with a SMALL 12-14sz treble hook (approx 6' of leader line). Some days the tip ups out fish us in the shelter 2:1. We keep out minnows up high off the bottom with the tip ups on Saginaw, at least 3' off.  Water clarity has really cleared and while most fish are not line shy, the small trebles and light leader helps to get a few bonus fish.

Thank you very much! That makes a lot of sense. I'll try that out.

I always run tipups, last year i ran a barrel swivel about 12-16 inches from from the hook and it helped keep things untangled because the minnow swims in circles and will tangle eventually, we had a day where we got 8 eyes between 2 of us and all 8 were on tipups, i dont put them too far from the shack, i usually have 2 people in 1 shack so ill run 2 tipups per guy and each a jigging rod, but if i was solo i may do the deadstick and jigger combo and a tipup outside

I use real small trebles...#16 -18 hooked through the mouth of a medium sized Blue shiner. 6 to 8# Seaguar InvisX leader. No weight. I like the old HT ETU-10 tipups. Large spools with a nice drag system. Don't think they make them anymore.

Agree on the trebles but i usually hook my minnows on of 2 ways, either right behind the back of the head or through the meat of the tail, i usually split em half and half and see what works better that day with meat of the tail usually being the better but not always
