Hand Auger
« on: Feb 15, 2021, 02:25 PM »
Last year I nailed a submerged rock drilling a hole and now my auger wont drill for crap. I also acquired 2 more from a buddy but they seem to wobble and don't drill effectively. 2 of them are Eskimo and the other is an old school one. Will replacement blades improve these augers or are they junk now?

What size and blade type do you have ..I assume Mora/shaver blades ..get a set and try them ..if the auger is bent and/or wobbly you could always buy another same size auger and have a extra set of blades . You could also sharpen a set you have as well.

Add your location to your profile ..could be a shop nearby .

They wont sharpen damaged blades.. I'm guessing hitting a rock damaged them. Just a heads up, dont want to waste shipping money if they wont sharpen them

Yes new blades will help. Thankfully, augers are not as easy to permanently damage as I feared. My friend once thought he could skip drilling the last inch with my Mora and just slam the s**t out of the last inch or 2. Auger wouldn't cut after that. New blades fixed the problem.
