Gas powered augers

(1/1)

d vig:
What is the "best" gas powered ice auger out there considering price and performance?  What about hole hole size?

kenelz:
d Vig, check a couple subjects down in this same folder (equipment) and you will see a subject called "ice drills", lots of inforamtion there.

mnfishman:
Strikemaster, Jiffy and Eskimo are about the best on the market.  They will all cut ice just depends upon how much cutting you are going to do each time you are out.  10 holes or less I would pick a 2hp model anything more than that go with a 3hp.

The size of the hole depends upon what you are fishing for.  I personally think a 10" is too big.  Then again I have small children that fish with me so they actually could fall through a 10" hole.  I use an older Strikemaster 8 1/4" 2hp auger and it works great for what I need it for.

bushbunny:
Look at Tanaka & Husqvarna as well.  They both acquit themselves beside the heavier Jiffy, Eskimo, and Strike Master.
