If you're heading to Lewis Point might want to bring some waders or a boat

I just saw a picture taken a half hour ago at the access that made it look ok with a few tents out.  Hard to figure who is right

Real shame about this winter so far. Lots and lots of businesses are losing a bunch of money not to mention all the fun that we're not having.

Thanks for bringing me back to a reality “62”. I feel bad for the local businesses. My bait store seems lonely lately.  He will be fine but others are going to take a hit. Usually the shelves of ice fishing gear are pretty much picked over by this time. Not this year. I had a big selection of stuff to throw money away at yesterday in at Runnings.

I suggest you buy a boat and plan to open water fish next week. That’ll get the job done!

It's locked in front of me this morning, which is a heck of a lot better than looking at waves, but not even close to fishable.

I know a few of us have had the beach ice move west and then a day later push back to the east to hop on for a quick hit watching the wind direction the entire time. Remember a friend calling me after he noticed his flasher acting weird only to realize he was moving west. A bunch "self-rescued" with a cold wet walk back off the ice sheet and even cut a few chunks and floated sleds and gear in. Being on or off Oneida can change with short notice but can change really fast in a bad way too. Just one of those years that you're better off finding alternative spots and get your boat ready for when it really opens up in March by the looks of the weather patterns. Cold nights coming it looks but who really knows until we are a few days closer.

Heck, I've been thinking about taking the kayak out this weekend to pick up a limit.  At least I won't have to deal with jet skis and boats towing knee boarders.

Just because there are guys on the ice doesn’t mean it’s safe , everyone has their own comfort level
My understanding it was rolling ice yesterday or the day before

Oh man you just poked the hornets nest. He's going to tell you how stupid you are and that he had 900+ years experience that he isn't taking anyones word for anything
If you sit around all day and do nothing your a bum, but if you sit in a boat all day or in a shanty and do nothing they call you a fisherman

I seen people on the Sylvan cam. I asked about conditions on a ice forum. I live two hours away. If I was at the lake I would give a update or a report. I check ice no matter what someone tells me. Guys a degenerate ass clown.

Obviously you have no idea about Oneida. It’s a very dangerous lake when the whole thing isn’t locked up.
I agree with trap go find out for yourself. I’ve done it and I’m 1 hr40 min out.
Bad year bad/no ice no one giving reports. Gotta look ourselves.
Best luck guy
Disclaimer:
I make statements based on my experiences in the location I fished only. Check ice conditions for yourself.
Stay safe. Tight lines.
