I cut the hooks off of my 7's, cut front hook off the 5's and left 3's as is.I also added a split ring with bigger trebles. Too many times that front hook catches the hole and they're gone! Can't tell you how many times I've iced an eye to have the Rap fallout of its mouth!

Don't cut off the hooks, drill bigger holes and guide them up through.

Nice job on the eyes and thanks for the reports, guys.

Glad to hear wheelers are still a go. Now we'll see what this snow/ice does.

Maybe because you're cutting the hooks off?

So figured id ask this here since you guys know everything there is to know about eyes. I caught a eye yesterday in a lake by my house and it had blue slime coming off the tail. Anyone have an idea of what that was about? Never seen an eye with blue slime.

Maybe because you're cutting the hooks off? 95% of the hookups have been on the treble hook whether it was a keeper eye or a 9" perch! The Moonshine Raps don't have a front hook and maybe it's marketing maybe not. I also added a leader with a barrel swivel to give me an idea how much space I have left to play with. The smaller Raps get inhaled so it doesn't seem to matter

Well today was rough day out by lewis for me very slow and lot
of window shoppers only couple takers. ended the day with 4 jacks and one keeper eye
Fished the same spot Tuesday and managed a limit and 37 hog perch
fish held real tight to bottom today and most of the suspended marks I had today
ran as soon as I  jigged up to it . Still managed a nice meal with lot of work
As far as walk , well it sucked getting real hard on walkers  was like the good old days lol
Getting too old to walk through heavy snow , glad it has been great season so far ice conditions and fishing
being a walker I'm going to have to wait for the snow to settle or melt lol
GOOD LUCK TO ALL esp THE WALKERS THIS WEEKEND , TAKE YOUR TIME BE SAFE  DONT GIVE YOURSELF

thats what I figured after reading a bunch of stuff online. Had the same colors as a regular eye.... I thought the blue ones were extinct?

Fished out from constantia today, morning bite was fantastic but then it slowed down for us. Did great on the eyes but couldn’t locate the jumbos. Definitely sleds are the way to go but wheelers were getting through it.

If you go out of Godfrey , don't go out the boat launch or you are gonna get wet. Take the side trail to the left. :)

Nice job on the eyes. I had my worst day since the first time out back in December. The old skunk! Zero keepers. Handful of shorts and decent perch.

Snow was real wet and heavy late in the day but travel was still doable A bit of a chore for the wheeler and I would not want to be on foot, myself.

We’ll see what this rain does to it. Good luck to all venturing out tomorrow.

true blue pike lived in lake erie with a few fish being caught in Oswego river ,they were declared extinct

from the new York DEC

Blue Pike

Blue Pike Image
Sander vitreum glaucum

Blue pike lived in Lake Erie and the Niagara River until 1964 and is now extinct. It spawned in tributaries but otherwise lived in nearshore and offshore areas. Occasional catches in Lake Ontario and the mouth of the Oswego River were considered downstream migrants.

Well tough bite for me this weekend with a few perch and some pins. Plenty of marks just pushing stuff around. Water 1" deep around my holes going to be slushy spots.

Yesterday morning was slow.  Couldn't seem to find consistent marks or a bite called it a day with 3 perch after 4 moves. Today was a different ball game.  Set up 19 ft of water and had my 3 keepers and 5 pins in 45 minutes or so.  Made a move to find some perch and pulled 2 more keepers up and a short and 5 perch in 30ft.  Packed up by 11.  Now I gotta wait till Saturday to get back out.  Can't wait.  I love having a good winter again.
