how do you make a spear?? any blue prints anyone would be willing to share?
Do you know how to weld? A spear is fairly easy to make with some imagination, look through the posts and you should find several pics of spears.
what kind of matrials do you guys use?? and yes i know how to weld(mig and stick)
i've tinkered around with spear designs for the better part of my life and have finally narrowed down what i like. my tines are 7" long 1/4" cold rolled steel with 1/8" welding rod pieces (3/4" long) barbs. i built a little jig to drill 1/8" holes in the tines to accept the barbs. this gives it a cleaner look and a smoother weld transition from tine to barb instead of welding the barb parallel to the tine and bending it out. the head of my spear is 9 1/4" wide with the tines spaced out by 1 1/4" (i think). spear head material is 5/16" plate steel.. . . a little light for me (next spear will be made with 3/8" plate). spear shaft is 5/8" round bar about 4.5' long. on top of that i fit a wood handle (about 2' long). total length of the spear is about 5'7". next one will be 5'11" with the 3/8" head to add a bit more weight.
