What are u putting in a bait trap for bait?
« on: Oct 22, 2018, 06:48 PM »
Looking for something cheaper then dog food. I tried a glow stick, did not work. I know they work for catching smelts.

Some people use bread but I always caught more with dog food. It doesn't get much cheaper than dog food. The lowest price small bag will catch enough bait for the whole season. A tiny handful on the trap is all you need.

Break up a styrofoam cup into 1 1/2” pieces. Fried chicken bones are deadly as well.

What is going to be cheaper than dog food? I mean, you aren't using Blue Buffalo or some Whole Foods brand, are you? 10 lbs of Chuckwagon can be bought for like $4.99.

??? For $5 I get bag of fish food at Agway.  Floats to top of trap and doesn't drop out the bottom.   Works the best of everything I have tried and I've trapped bait for decades.

Dry hard bread. 3 day old pizza crust found in the back seat works best for me.  I also started putting 4 or 5 aluminum foil balls in my trap with good results. Fish are attracted to shiny stuff just as much as smelly, tasty stuff.
Fishing relaxes me. It's like yoga, except I get to kill something.
