Wow, I didn’t realize they were making it that big. Not going very fast, but getting some tip ups going should be interesting as it would be just about right for a slow drift covering lots of water.

With an estimated weight of over 20 million pounds it's amazing they could get it moving with outboard motors. How many motors were attached to it?

in their 1st attempt they couldn't get the props below the bottom of the ice. they must have either got some longer shaft motors or lowered the motor further down in the ice.

Here is a good link
That link covers the first weekend when it didn't turn. It does however echo my sentiments on how people were having trouble with their augers. Also, drilling 2 inches away from the other holes didn't help jack, hard as hell to connect 2 holes together, I'd rather overlap continuously. Some people realized that... some didn't.
The theory with the outboards is that eventually the thrust of the prop would "eat" a channel through the ice and then have some sort of propulsion. I'll say I was a bit skeptical but since I didn't have better ideas I cranked up an outboard. There was an older Evinrude 8hp that had an extended shaft on it, looked liked it was rigged for a sail boat. I think a 4hp nissan. A 2.5 hp yammy and a 15 hp yammy 4-stroke with a 15 inch shaft that was only running on 1 cylinder as well so... We had to move the cribbing on the 15 on the second day cause it was about to fall in. What would work slick would be to have a trolling plate with a notch so the plate could be at a 45° and thrust down and out instead of just out. Hindsight.
Me and another guy were able to push it with 2x4's away from touching the wall. Surprising the weight you can push when it is buoyant, stopping the object is a different scenario.
I'm glad it worked out and as far as I know no one was injured considering a bunch of drunk guys on a sheet of ice with augers and chain saws... I'd help out again and maybe even offer my 25 hp with 45° trolling plate. ;)
It must be something in the water.

I think they should take advantage of the wind and put up some 12' poles with a sail cloth between them .

. Ice fishing is closed . Open water is a month or more away . People still need to get out and do something .

If they can get this Carousel going they can set up tables and kegs and have trolling holes.
