Fishing for smelt is still open.  It's a lot of fun and the fish are very tasty.  The smelt are small (about 4 to 6 inches) so you just clean them, fry them nice and crispy and eat them whole.

Brook trout fishing in the Saguenay is open year round too.  We are allowed 5 brook trout.  Average size is about 15 inches.  Not many people target the brook trout by using a larger bait and hook than those used for smelt.  These salt water brook trout are excellent table fare.
