After looking at temp forecasts this Sat I was hopefull that I might get to try Chaumont out for the first time this coming Wed b4 I have to get back to work for a stretch......... Just checked the current conditions on my phone and the weather station at Watertown airport is recording 20mph sustained W winds with gusts to 40!!>:( >:( Not going to play nice with the crappy ice that might have been left to try and rebuild. Not looking promising for my Wed Fishing trip.

I recommend you hold off. Fished it sat with decent ice but when we left, conditions changed.  We also had really warm temps sun.

I wouldn't recommend the ice, but give it a shot. have not been out there myself, after this warm weekend I am going to give it a week or so to deep freeze ;)

I guess I'm headed north again this weekend.......some below zero temps starting tomorrow for the black lake area and a forecasted high of 0 and low of -17 for Monday! I would also like to say R.I.P to the fellow fisherman that passed.

sad
If you consider it a sport to gather your food by drilling through 36 inches of ice and sitting there all day hoping that the food will swim by, you might live in northern New York

Which weather forecast you looking at?  Don't think we are in for that kind of cold.  It's coming, but not as "hard" as we would like.

Checked out Grass, Red, Moon and Payne lakes tonight. Walked a little over 100' onto grass had 5.5 inches of ice 1.5 solid blue ice 4 of white. Red lake could not get to the ice to check, talked to a couple of guys that were just coming off of Moon said there was about 5.5 inches of ice there also, they also said that they had been able to get right out onto Hyde today. The actual slip at Payne still as not good today but if you go off either side of it there was almost 6 inches of Ice with right around an inch of clear blue. If the weather does as they are saying looks like we will be set for the weekend just not sure about Red lake.

i tried to myself but the ice wasnt in yet, and its gonna be late if at all for this year....[

Yup I agree with Slver here.  That is one spot you do not want to take chances with, WAY to much current.
If your looking for somewhere possibly to fish think Brandy brook or some bays out that way as those areas should still be semi ok in spots, but like with any ice, walk slow and check ice thickness regularly..

I have personally already fished it three time this year. I was wondering if it had refroze yet. I will be there tomorrow morning fishing it at 5am if anyone would like to join.

I had fished it 10 times atleast, however when the ice went out I quit going and will not go back there until we get atleast a few more days of below freezing temps.
