Does anyone have an safe ice in the north country to report? I'm headed to watertown for xmas shopping today. Thinking about checking out a few locations on the way. If I find anything worth reporting i'll post. Today's goal, make it out of gander mountain without putting the ol bank account into the red. doubtful but its a goal worth working towards  ;)
pond here in Colton seems close. Just one though

Heading up to Wilmington/Saranac Lake area for New Years weekend to visit a few friends. Hows the ice coming up that way? Should I bother to bring my gear? Thanks.

You should bring it just in case. Think of how mad at yourself you would be if there was fishable ice and you had no gear. We are supposedly going to have a cold spell after this warm weather passes this week. here is to wishful thinking.

Took a tour of Black Lake today - The ice has held up better than I thought.  The smaller bays stayed locked in.  I'll go with one week from today for 3-4" with the forecast the way it is.  My "spot(s)" won't be ready then though.  :P

Saw a good bit of skim ice floating down the black river bay today. Shouldn't be too much longer until the small lakes are fishable
Well let me tell you something now, Johnny. Last Thursday, I turned 95 years old. And I never exercised a day in my life. Every morning, I wake up, and I smoke a cigarette. And then I eat five strips of bacon. And for lunch, I eat a bacon sandwich. And for a midday... Bacon! A whole damn plate of it.....

No there ain't no moral. I just like the story

A guy was on 1 1/2 of black ice today.   I know I'm a die hard but even I thought he was a moron.    I wondered out till I saw how much ice he was on.    Just 10 minutes from him was a solid  3 1/2 inches

Took a trip across the TI bridge today to scout some ice... Both Eel bay and Lake of the Isles are open with the exception of a small amount at both boat launches.  The view from the bridge shows open water everywhere.  Anyone else see anything???

should be on the ice this weekend...
If you consider it a sport to gather your food by drilling through 36 inches of ice and sitting there all day hoping that the food will swim by, you might live in northern New York

Was wondering what the target species is in Hannawa?
