If your auger is walking it is not getting a good bite on the ice. Most common cause is dull or bent tips on the blades. If the auger is dropped on the ice or when I see guys slam them down to ensure they get a good bite, well there is the cause they have to slam them down, they have bent the blades and continue to every time they do it. I would check your blades and adjust your blades or bite angle if you can.

The K-Drill auger makes the point that they have chipper blades which are fine with making overlapping holes or opening old holes. This is used with a drill. Augers with shaving blades have a problem with that.
-
that's is hard to do with shaver blade auger.chipper blade augers are good at overlapping holes.problem is at least with my ridged octane and 8"mora is that if you go slow my shaver blade mora will walk around and that's what you would have to do to overlap holes.my setup rips if I just pull the trigger fully, then it cuts with no walking.my mora was brand new too.

How big are these walleye that you need overlapping holes? I just pulled 1 2 lb 4 oz perch out of a 4.5 inch hole yesterday. I can't imaging needing over 6 inches for any walleye I can imagine.

i do with lazer augers, but it will catch and bend one of the blade flights and tweak it eventually so that blade won't sit like it's supposed to. i just bought another 6 inch lazer just last season and a 8 inch lazer for this season.
we had to drill overlapping holes to get a 18.5 inch crappie out of a 4 inch hole in 21 inches of ice.
had been doing this with a 6 inch lazer and reopening holes for 7 years. the 4 inch lazer still cuts like new and is my oldest auger.
i made sure the 8 inch had the flight kickers on both flaps before buying it. the newer designed hand auger have a circle that surrounds the cutting area to keep this problem away like power head augers have.
i tried drilling out a fresh 5 inch hole a buddy made with my 8 inch and it wouldn't do it, it just bounced around in the hole.
i read a thread on here saying to use a light and paper and lay the auger on the floor and roll the auger back and forth to use the shadow to find high/low points to adjust the flights. buying hew is faster.

Like to have space to work... When pulling a 20+ inch walleye through a hole with a tranducer in it can get crazy... I like to put 3 side by side by side so i can see good also

I drill a hole for the transducer. That keeps it out of the way for sure. Here in Idaho, we have a 12 inch max dimension for a hole in the ice.
I also don't like to leave a "man trap" for the next guy to take a soaker in if it snows.

Maybe drill a couple at an angle? That way you can push against something flat...

With my old lazer gas auger, I used to drill overlapping holes with no problem. Of course you are talking about doing it with a hand auger.
With a hand auger, I would start a hole and only drill it an inch deep, then start the new overlapping hole and drill all the way through. Then finish the initial pilot hole. Since it's already started, it shouldn't kick out. Haven't tried this, but this is how I would attempt to drill overlapping holes.

Good call, that's the way I've been doing it...just a bit deeper than an inch.
;D

I'll sell you my 9" strikemaster laser gas auger....problem solved!!
