Kahtoola micro splkes
« on: Dec 10, 2016, 08:33 AM »
Anyone have problems with these? I've been using Yaktrax for a few years & they seem to lose their grip, ( 2nd ) pair. I'm thinking about Kahtoola' s but there's a bunch of bad reviews, anyone?

I had one pair that ripped at the heel area had to replace. But they're solid I have a dedicated pair of boots for ice and I just leave them on. I never walk on ice without them, plus any hills you may encounter they will help tremendously.

Hate to remind you but the search option on the top of the page is your friend.  Type in Kahtoola and you will get 23 pages of threads to read. http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?action=search2    This topic comes up 3 or more times a year. Either Kahtoola micro spikes or screws in your boots usually come out as best opinions.

The new version is slightly different than the older version (which I use). From what I have heard owners of the old ones aren't particularly fond of the redesign and material used in the ones they offer now.

Picked up a pair last year. They fit well on my Baffin boots and kept my rear end off the ice.

I've had mine now for three years and love them, I try a bunch of other stuff but should have got these in the first place. Would have saved me money and time for sure

I will chime in as well as a proud owner of a pair of Kahtoola micro spikes, you will not find a better cleat out there for walking on hardware. Doing it right the first time, go with kahtoola.

I have a negative slant with Kahtoolas. I forgot them one time last year . Took a nasty fall and split head open. After that I left them on for the rest of the year. This fall I started getting ready to make sure everything I needed was up to par. The red material that stretched over the Mickey Mouse boots were all dry rotted. No chemicals of any kind had touched the material. They were stored in a cupboard and there was no critter chewing. They just kind of fell apart in my hands. Went with the screw in spikes this year.

Kahtoola will not see any of my green again. Thought it might have been partly my fault for leaving them on all year. But according to other Kahtoola owners most of them leave them on like I did. I haven't threw them away yet.

I'm needing another pair of Kahtoola Micro spikes and if they are downgrading their materials I think I may go with the Hillsound trail crampons instead.

I went to buy Kahtoollas but saw the Eagle Claws for $20. Used them 3 times now and they kick butt.  We'll see how long they last.

Ocean State Job Lot flyer, stainless chain cleat with silicone bindings for $20.00. I'm frugal purchased a pair for my rubber boots, satisfied with the quality at the price point.
