Retrofitting A D-Battery Powered Aerator
« on: Jan 03, 2023, 02:19 PM »
Has anyone ever taken an aerator (mine is a 2xD-battery powered Frabill), and wired it up to use an M12 battery?

I am just curious if there's anyone out there that has tried using one.  I was just chatting with a friend about the adapter devices on AMZN.

Any electricians out there that can confirm or deny its viability?

D size batteries emit 1.5 volts dc
Drill battery is 12v dc.
Simple answer is no unless ya use resistors which are bad for the battery.
Best bet would be 2 li-ion rechargeables & add a usb cord.

Agree on the rechargeables. I have 4 of them. 2 last all day. Switch out at night. Recharge. Replace in the morning.  Repeat.

i was looking at doing exactly this with a DC-DC buck converter. The issue was space inside the aerator and 2.1mm barrel jack connector.

its going to cost $5-$7 to do it....

Enelope's are $7.

Not a bad idea sin. I'd go w/ a water proof , non variable model that would fit in the battery compartment & can be hardwired.
Let me know if ya build it

I took an old aerator and cut the wires going to the battery holders, spliced a USB cable to them and using a milwaukee battery power supply that put out 3volts DC, ran the aerator all day long. Being double what the batteries put out, the motor ran very fast, and very loud. I was ready to throw it overboard, but didn't. I now have a new battery operated aerator that runs very quiet and the 2 D cell batteries will run for a couple of days.
