Longer rod reel recommendation
« on: Dec 26, 2022, 08:15 AM »
This might be a stupid question.  Just got done building my first ice rod.  Ended up taking a 48” blank and cutting is down to a 46” blank for my build.  Was wondering if it matters if I put a spinning reel or inline reel on the rod?  I know a spinning reel would be ok but not sure if an inline reel would compliment the rod or cause any issues.

That would ultimately depends on the position of the stripper guide.  If that stripper guide is like really close to the rod handle then an inline reel would compliment the rod better.  If the stripper guide is a bit further away, much better suited for a spinning reel, no tip bounce from the spinning reel rotor motion.

Tip bounce from the spinning reel rotor motion sounds like an added bonus for action to me!
