Title: Repair drag on Frabill First Ice Reel
Post by: 2Dales on Feb 13, 2011, 12:04 PM
Trying to get some more life out of my Frabill First Ice Reel. The drag is very jerky, and I am using 2# line. I took apart the drag and it consists of stacked steel washers with felt pads between. I am thinking that applying reel lube on the felt pads might smooth out  the drag? What do you think?

Other than putting in new drag washers like Carbonex ir similar theres not alot you can do, common problems with low end reels is poor drags. Last cheap reel I had cost me 2 mounter crappies, I fixed it for good with my 28oz Estwing framing hammer when I got home that night....

Know what you mean! Going to upgrade for next season, and finish this one out with my regular ultralights now that the temps are rising.

If you're looking to smooth out the drag, you can apply some grease.
