What is the 5 x 5 access hole above the RH fishing hole used for?

Sweet!  You thought of everything.
I have plans for one as I picked up a old boat trailer very similar to yours for $20. I plan on using a similar base 5'x6' base using 2"x2" and 1/2" green treated floor.  Walls will be constructed of 1"x2" studs, 1/2 insulation, and line the exterior with 1/8" lauan.  I figured go light on the studs but make it stiff with the lauan.  Also, the ceiling will be flat with 2"x2" studs, 1/2" insulation, no lauan but use 1 pc. aluminum roof for travel protection and water proofing.

What are your thoughts on using green treated 2"x2" for the floor studs?  Would make it much lighter

2x2's for the floor joist is way to weak.
I built a 4'x6' shanty and I took 2x6's and ripped them in half which that gave me a 2-5/8" x 48" joist using 3/8" plywood for the floor. It worked but it did flex but it didn't break. So on a 5' span go with treated 2x4's and 1/2" treated plywood and play it safe.
Just my 2 cents.

Soon as the weather breaks around here I'll do a video.
Forecast tonight with the wind chill is -30 degrees and that's going to carry into the daytime.
The wind has been blowing over 20 mph everyday.

I won't be the first truck on the ice.
When I see other trucks and shanties on the ice, I'm there.
Their was one report a few days ago that a local lake had 8 inches of ice so with the weather we're having now it won't be long.

Depends on how dark you want it inside your shanty. If I want a little light I just pull down one corner of the shade. I like it dark because the Marcum screen shows up better.

Not yet, we have about 9 inches of ice on the Bay of Green Bay where I fish most of the time.
I seen a posting on Lake Link that one of the lakes 40 miles away from me has 12 inches of ice.
In the mean time I have a Clam Kenai that I use until the ice is safe enough.

I placed a rubber mat on the floor so if we wear cleats we won't rip the wooden floor up.
Also made a bracket to hold a 16" HDTV with a built in DVD player. Had to build a battery box and mounted a plug on the side to power the TV. It will sit on the second shelf right next to the Vexilar.

Thanks for the nice comments.
Don't know how long the battery will last. Next weekend we should be able to drive our trucks on the ice and I'll be able to test it out.

you can do a simple math problem to find how long your battery will last. take the amp hours of your battery and multiply it by 10 and the divide by the watts on the back of the tv.

Did the math that " da man cave shack" suggested.

Battery amp hours is 10 x 10=100, divide by 24 watts = 4.16 hours.

The football games are about 3 hours long and then enough power if left for the post game.
Most movies are 1.5 to 1.75 hours long. So this battery should work out fine.

Thanks da man cave shack!

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Here's the video on how easy it is to tip up or down the Tip Down Shanty.
As posted before the shanty total weight is 480 pounds. The safety chains were not tired down and that's what you hear banging against the tongue.

We have a total of 15 inches of snow this year already and it's only 4 days into winter. But a good thing is we also have 12 inches of ice. So this week I"ll be pulling the shanty on the ice for the first time.
CAN'T WAIT!!!

If you can't download this, go to YouTube and type in "Tip Down Shanty"

how rigid is the exterior with only the 1/2" insulation?  Is it pretty fragile, can you lean against it?

I didn't push real hard on the walls but it's rigid. The boat shrink wrap is 6 mil so even if you lean hard on the walls you might crack the foam but you won't fall through.

Jan.8th is the first time I took the shanty out and how sweet it is. Pulled behind my truck at 65 MPH with no problem.
The ice was like a plowed field even with the snow on it, but we took our time. It was nice that my wife was able to do some fishing with me even if we started out late at about 2 o'clock and only fished for 1.5 hours. We ended up with 1 whitefish, it's better then being skunked.
