Title: I saw ice this weekend!
Post by: Auger on Nov 14, 2005, 10:09 AM
I was up in the far NE corner of the state this weekend getting ready for deer season.  There was skim ice on all the little ponds and marshes.  It was only skim but at least it was there.  It almost time!!

Our deer camp is on a small lake in Florence County.  I could have ice fished on Thursday and Friday of deer season, but I didn't bring any gear.  I had enough trouble getting my deer season stuff up there, along with the mountain of crap that my wife takes to her parent's house for the week.  I was pulling my hair out.  Then I just drank beer until my anxiety abated.  Now I'm back at work in southern WI and there is no ice to be seen.  Back to the hair pulling!

We were just talking about that here, instead of actually working.  We came to the same conclusion -- it should be real close soon.

I just checked my other forum and there is a report that there were guys ice fishing the grade on Sat.  I'd be very careful, though.  It sounds like there is ice there in some form or another, but there is also a tremedous amout of BS on that other board.

I just got an email from my brother in Chippewa Falls and he said that he and his son hit one of their favorite spots and slayed the gills last saturday on about 3-3.5 inches of ice.  Lucky buggers.  Wonder how bad the heat destroyed the ice?

I'm not gonna be in Wisconsin for three weeks.  I just want Mendota frozen by the time I get home.   :)

I will be ice fishing tomorrow or Saturday at the latest.  Got the shack in my Explorer already, got the Vex charged, and tackle organized.  All I have to do is grab a few things and off I go.

You're killing me.  I've got a Christmas party, a Bon Voyage party, and a wine tasting party this weekend.  After that though, I'm free until Christmas.  Good luck and be safe.  Let us know how you do.

No gills or bass?  I always pound the bass in the summer there.  I'm starting to shake from withdrawal.   :o ;D

Up at cottage in northern Langlade County last weekend. 5-6 inches of good clear ice. Several ATV's on lake. Quite a few flags, mostly small to medium northerns. Should be at least 8 or more inches by this weekend. Let the season begin!

Finally got out yesterday.  Ice was downright scarey Friday and still pretty iffy Sunday.  Yesterday was okay other than the fact it was real slushy.  Could have done without the snow.  Anyways fished about 2 hours no fish.  Hopped around and tried 5 spots.  Last year on this lake I could catch 100-150 small gills in a couple hours time.  Not sure what has happened to the lake.  Did see a lot of guys running for flags (pike and bass) and also noticed the weeds were way down so this may have factored in to things.
