Eskimo Quickfish--is this normal?
« on: Feb 11, 2011, 08:19 AM »
I have an Eskimo Quickfish (love it). Used it maybe a half-dozen times so far.

Is it normal that the "gray skin" on the inside of the shanty sort of crack and pin hole? What I mean is the red fabric is showing through in places and there's pin holes showing up. There's not actual holes all the way through...just the gray "membrane" sort of cracking like dry skin, if you will.

Normal?

There was a thread on this but to sum it up they said to open your NEW eskimo indoors and slowly I guess the fabric sticks to it self when they package it and the first time out if its cold it will stick to it self and cause those issues..

The paperwork that came with my Quickfish 4 said this is normal.
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

Normal wear and tear when it's a polyurethane coating.

I've noticed that it seems to be getting worse the more I use it.  When I bought my new one at the beginning of the season I opened it in the garage and did not put it back in the bag (to much of a pain).  After each use I would set it up and let it dry.  My old one never had this problem.  Is the quality lacking in the new shacks or what?  I thought it might have something to do with the consistent subzero temps I was using it in but now I don't know.  It defiantly makes it hard to spear in with all that added light.
I was born an Alaskan I just didn't live here at the time.

I've had mine for two seasons with a lot of use and it seems to be doing the same thing.  I don't think it's that big of a problem if I can get five years out of it I'll be happy.

I owned a Glens Outdoors 6 man and a Clam Summit along with my brothers Summit and they all had the same problem with the black coating on the inside coming off the more you use it, till you can see daylight trough it. :%$#!: :%$#!: :%$#!:
