Can't say for sure about right now, but ice was inconsistent a few weeks ago when I was there. Like other places nearby, I would imagine there is a fair amount of slush on top of the good ice. I think the walleye bite is primarily early morning and evening, with the occasional walleye during the day while you're getting some perch and crappie.
The last time I was there, I didn't do that well, but caught 3 average sized perch. However, I was around many fish. They just seemed mostly unwilling to bite. I was out in front of Frank Starr Park.
