2 deaths in Iowa so far this season,  falling thru the ice.

I probably wouldn’t be standing on any ice in Iowa that isn’t a ways past highway 20.

In addition to the deaths, other people have fallen in and been rescued.  Maybe I've paid more attention lately, but it seems like this has happened more this year than other years.

Yeah, I would not even try any ice south of Clear Lake after the rain the last couple days. Certainly not small ponds.

I was thinking about trying out PDC if I'd had the time before this weekend, but fifty people out on Greymore the 27th or not I don't think I would make the drive now.

The drowning in CR happened a week or so ago. I haven't heard much about it beyond what it was in the news but my understanding is it happened on a backwater pocket/harbor right off the Cedar River. No matter how "out of the current" such areas are they are never really out of the current, and you always want to keep that in mind before trying that sort of ice. That always takes longer to freeze than a pond or lake with no current in the exact same area.
