Does anybody have any idea if this cold is helping the ice at all?

I was by there yesterday. Looked like all the lakes blew off with high winds and are now covered with some ugly looking stuff. Didn't venture out far after finding less than an inch of ice with a spud bar. Going to take much more than what is forecast this week.

Know of some people who fished a certain refuge lake.  So still some good ice if you can find it.

Which lake had fishable ice hoping to take the kids up this weekend?

I fished the refuge sunday and found one lake that had a good area of 3-5 inches of good hard ice. The fishing was very slow. The wind really stirred up the sediment in the lakes. You could barely see bottom in 2 FOW. If you decide to venture out use extreme caution!

A group staying with me at the Trading Post reported 5-6 inches at Watts yesterday.  They caught a few nice bluegills.  This weeks cold snap has been really helpful with ice conditions but caution is still advised since winds prevented an even freeze-up.  The most consistant area ice is on Boardman Creek at Merritt with 7-10 inches.

Fished Hackberry on Wed.  Bite was slow to off.  We did scrounge up perch and gills enough to have some fun.  The ice we were on was a good solid 5-6".

Staying at the Tradewinds in Valentine.  Got great place to clean your catch.  Five Star Motel for Fishermen.

I fished it last wkend.  People still on th ice.  conditions fairly poor though.  Found places of 2 inches.  Clear lake for some reason had excellent ice.  7 inches and up to ten.  I wager it is very fishable still.  Other lakes had fishable ice and open water mixed. Merritt was still good on the Boardman arm.  Did not try the snake.  Also stopped at Willow Lake (Brown Co.) and ice was patchy, but thick enough to fish on most of it.

AJB and I plan on hitting one or two refuge lakes when we're up for the Meritt trip.  Sounds promising.

Was very poor.  I believe the front that came through friday night did something to the perch up there.  Bluegill would still bite, perch were very slow everywhere.
