Ice check~no fish
« on: Jan 28, 2023, 05:16 PM »
Made it up to camp today to do an ice check, first things first shoveling into camp.  After that with spud bar and auger in hand I checked the ice as I walked out and found the first 3” of ice was a soft crusty ice with about 3” of water under that with 4” of ok ice under that, I drilled a test hole about every 15’ until I made it out to a spot I generally do well catching crappies an WP in about 15-20 FOW….jigged an hole hopped for a bout an hour with only a few lookers but no takers. Came off the ice for some lunch and to finish shoveling off the deck of the camp….it was nice to get out and check the ice.  Keeping my hopes up that by the end of next week that everything should lock up, based on the extended forecast

I just want to go ice fishing and ignore my adult problems

Hey pool guy ..crazy how it’s almost Feb and the ice is limited ..we have been hitting it hard but on small ponds ..stay safe and best of luck
when chuck norris played golf for money, chuck marked down a hole in zero every time, the golf pro said, "chuck: you can't score zero on a hole." Chuck norris turned towards the man and said, "I'm chuck norris, the man proceeded to pour gas over his body and set himself on fire because that would be less painful than getting roundhouse kicked by chuck norris....chuck norris roundhouse kicked him in the face anyways

My findings similar to yours with the snow to water yo ice ratio, some lakes have more snow, , walking is tough .. alot of open water where is normally  see Bob houses

Looks like a great time, it was a beautiful day today. I was stuck seeing the in laws and watching my two toddlers and three others wail on each other. Hoping to get out there soon.

Great to see that you made it out. Too bad the brookie didn't come back to visit you.

What a nice spot! I was on very similiar ice yesterday maybe even less. Shoreline was open because of rocks and glare “ice” about 100ft out around the whole contour of the lake and then the minute it changes to snow out there it was wet mush. Hoping the cold freezes it up but the snow is insulating it it was like an Oreo sandwich. I drilled a hole right through snow on one and turned around couldn’t tell what I was standing on. Felt like March I could have used the sunblock!
How's the ice they all ask? "I’ll tell you what, you can get a good look at a t-bone by sticking your head up a bull’s butt, but I’d rather take the butcher’s word for it."

  Hello all
I drove up the lakes yesterday, it was weird to see so much open water up around Merideth , Moultonbourgh, the small ponds  were better, but as people said it was like a oriole cookie with the crust snow and ice , then the all open water, behind the derby head quarters  wide open , up off the neck road mostly open and very slushy what was there ice, every one use extreme caution when venturing out, safety first beyond all else.  Be safe and good luck, cold is coming lets hope the winds are not ?
