I can't find any ethanol free gas in town, it all has 10% ethanol. Has anyone tried any of this ethanol shield oil with their augers? It says it protects your engine from ethanol.

The only ethanol free stuff easily available is premium around us. Not always the best choice for every motor. Don't really need to "protect your motor" from ethanol, just your hoses and the fuel itself are more susceptible to "damage". I've used a number of products over the years with relatively equal results. Sea-Foam is awesome, Stabil has worked well and I've used the marine version in my outboards for years, Startron is also a good product.
My bottom line on ethanol, It is NOT evil. Use your fuel regularly, use an additive (really, most work just fine), I always leave my fuel systems full at the end of the season (as opposed to draining them) so seals and diaphragms don't dry out, I'll usually drain before the new season (into the lawn tractor that burns everything) and start with fresh in augers, weedeaters, chainsaws etc.
There will be differing opinions here (lots of 'em). That's fine. I've got at least 30 years of burning ethanol in virtually everything I own with nary an issue. Ask yourself this: If ethanol ruins your engines, why can you drive a vehicle out to well past 200K on it? Hmmmmm. A little common sense goes a long way. That and understanding what ethanol does and (maybe more importantly) doesn't do.
So, to your question. your product is probably OK but certainly not "magic". For me, Sea-Foam is as close to magic as it gets. That and maybe Marvel...... @)

In most areas in the Ice Belt, winter-grade gasoline is available November 1 through April 1. Premium fuel will ensure peak performance for your auger.

I've never had a problem running ethanol in any of my small engines. The biggest reason I know of to avoid ethanol is the condensation that occurs when you have a vented fuel system like in a boat. The ethanol evaporates easily and cools the air inside the gas tank causing moisture to condense. You'd be amazed at how much water can accumulate in there...literally quarts. Anything with a sealed gas tank won't have that problem though.

I use it in my 2000 watt champion inverter generator since it sits for months at a time sometimes. Seems to be fine.
I either add some of this or seafoam into fuel if it is going to sit for long periods. If it is not going to sit a long time I just run 10% plain with no addatives....no problems.

I found Premium in our area to be about the worst fuel possible. It is so much more expensive that nobody buys it in our area.
When I bought it and put it in my pickup and boat it was a nightmare. The fuel sat so long in the tanks at the gas station that it had water and other issues with it. Maybe in other areas premium moves faster, but I found the 10% ethanol works fine. If your going to have it sitting in a tank for long periods just add the stability products like seafoam or ethanol shield then you know what you have and it prya doesn't cost anymore then premium.

I know it is probably overpriced, but don't they sell ethanol free fuel in small amounts at Home Depot for small 2 cycle motors? If I recall correctly it was somewhere over by the grass trimmers.

I've used all of the above mentioned products, and I had problems with all my small engines. since I started using
ethanol free gas, about 3.5 years ago, I haven't had an issue with any of my small engines. The ethanol gas eats up seals
and wears on the jets in the carburetor! :%$#!:

It's called Trufuel and you can get it for both 2 and 4 cycle engines. The 2 cycle comes in several mix ratios!! It's sold in many places. The auto parts store I work for carries it! It's good stuff!!!

Yup, a bit speedy but have yet to have a problem w/crappy fuel. Also convenient to transport.

Speedy?? I believe you guys meant SPENDY!! And it is, but you don't use a ton of it, and it's an investment in the life of your auger!! :thumbsup:

Agreed. I love the pre mix. I don't use a lot of it, so it is always fresh. Had to many issues with ethanol gas going bad before I could use it all. Non E gas I could mix a gallon and have it all season. no issues.Just keep a quart can in the sled. Less smoke and no issues.

Ethanol is nothing but trouble for me. I never use it, will pay more for premium if needed. I usually buy the mid-grade no-lead. All my mowers (3), chainsaws and small engines use no-lead. Ethanol messes with hoses, diaphrams in pumps, some gasket material and other components. Don't use it unless you drain your system after each use.

I agree with the TruFuel comments - I've been using it now for 2 years on all my 2 cycle stuff. Not only do I not have to worry about stabilizers and all that crap but my auger (and other equipment) love it - run better than they have in the past.

Ya stupid spell check. I use a can just before I shut everything before seasons end and make sure you wet store everything. I head out and crank my mower, tiller, sled etc... a cpl times during storage to make sure bowls stay wet. I used to use stabil but had to keep tearing down my carbs and clean them because the bowl would dry out and leaves a red flake in the bowl.
We started using trufuel in all our Fire equipment at work for pumps/saws because we were having same issues.
